September 2-5, San Francisco, San Mateo

***updated

  • I visited SF to catch up with some close friends who I hadn’t seen since they had a kid 3 years ago. The last time I was there was for the baby shower. This group of 5 friends are some of the closest friends I have, all from our time together at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. It was pretty great to just hang out- grill out, dim sum, have a few drinks…
  • There’s a place with great pie by their house in San Mateo. Definite highlight.
  • David works at Oculus- doing VR stuff. He was kind enough to bring me into their office to check out some of their projects… and it’s incredible stuff. The level of immersion that technology has enabled is pretty astounding. I think it’s important, because there’s a kind of power for transmitting stories that’s directly related to the amount of emotional/relational content and the level of immersion. It’s pretty fun to experience and hear about the people that are trying to push the frontier of what the medium of VR can do, and what it that means for transmitting story and meaning in the near future.
